The Difference Between a Call Status and a Lead Status

This article explains the difference between a call status and a lead status in Liner. Understanding this distinction helps interpret reporting data correctly and use analytics filters effectively.

In short, a call status shows how a single dialing attempt ended (for example, a conversation took place, no answer, or the call was transferred to sales). A lead status, on the other hand, reflects the overall state of the customer throughout the entire processing cycle — from the moment the lead enters the system to the final result, such as “Qualified” or “Not qualified.”

Let’s look at both in detail.

What is a call status?

A call status is the result of a single phone attempt. It is assigned after each dialing attempt. Examples include:

  • No answer

  • Client hung up

  • Conversation completed

  • Transferred to sales

An operator assigns a call status for every call attempt.

If several calls are made to the same lead, each call will have its own status.

Note

Call analytics also includes statuses such as waiting, dialing, processing, and connection interruption.

What is a lead status?

A lead status reflects the overall state of a lead — where the lead currently is in the processing workflow.

Examples of lead statuses:

  • New
  • In progress
  • Qualified
  • Disqualified
  • Rejected

A lead status changes throughout the dialing process. For example, if after a call the customer shows interest, the lead may receive the status “Qualified.” Most of the time, the lead status is updated automatically based on the latest call status. For instance, if the operator selects the call status “Not interested,” the system may automatically assign the lead status “Not qualified (rejected).”

How to use these statuses in analytics

  • To evaluate operator performance — call statuses help track how many calls end successfully.
  • To analyze the sales funnel — lead statuses show how many leads progress to the target outcome.

In the Analytics module, both status types can be used as filters or comparison axes when building reports.

Conclusion

Call statuses describe the outcome of individual call attempts, while lead statuses represent the broader picture of lead processing. Understanding the difference between these two concepts is essential for accurate reporting and informed decision-making.
